Description
Proprioceptive corrector for dogs - Knuckling Support
What is it indicated for?
The Proprioceptive Corrector is designed to help dogs that drag their knuckles when walking due to sciatic nerve insufficiency, a condition known as “knuckling”. This device holds the two central toes of the paw by means of an elastic cord connected to a clamp in the tarsal area, facilitating a correct support of the pads and preventing dragging of the dorsal part of the foot.
You can use the shield both as an alternative to surgery as well as for post-surgical treatments.
The pressure applied by the protector increases the blood pressure in the joint, thus increasing the temperature and reducing pain.
Neuromuscular Recovery
Stimulates proprioceptive response, helping to strengthen muscles and improve coordination in dogs with neurological problems.
Knuckling correction
Prevents knuckle dragging, promoting proper foot position to improve stability and prevent injury.
Comfortable and secure fit
Ergonomic, lightweight and breathable design, adaptable to different sizes to ensure comfort and support without irritation.
What is Knuckling?
Knuckling in dogs is a neuromuscular problem that affects the mobility of their paws, causing them to walk by dragging their knuckles instead of properly supporting their pads. This disorder can cause injury, difficulty moving and a decrease in the animal’s quality of life.
Why does knuckling occur?
knuckling is a symptom of proprioceptive deficit, which means that the dog loses the ability to perceive the position of its paws on the ground. This can be due to a variety of conditions, such as:
- Degenerative myelopathy → progressive disease affecting the spinal cord.
- Herniated discs → Spinal cord compression affecting mobility.
- Nerve injuries → Trauma or neurological conditions that reduce sensation in the paws.
- Weak musculature or atrophy → Lack of hind leg strength due to inactivity or advanced age.
How does it affect the dog?
A dog with knuckling may stumble frequently, show insecurity when walking or avoid moving because of the pain caused by knuckle dragging. If left untreated, it can lead to ulcers, nail wear and chronic lameness.
What solutions exist?
Treatment of knuckling depends on its cause, but usually includes:
Rehabilitation and physiotherapy → Exercises to improve proprioception and strengthen muscles.
Mihapi Proprioceptive Corrector → Designed to correct knuckle dragging in dogs with neurological problems, it helps to correctly position the paw, stimulating proprioception and improving mobility. Its adjustable and comfortable design allows effective rehabilitation without restricting natural movement.
Diet and supplements → Specific nutrients for the nervous and muscular system.
